Through ASEC's Higher Education for Sisters in Africa (HESA) Reflective Learning Workshops, Catholic sisters are reminded that education is not simply about earning a degree or accumulating knowledge. It is preparation for service. Each year, sisters gather to reflect on their academic journeys, celebrate milestones, strengthen the relationships that sustain them, and renew their commitment to the ministries they serve. These workshops create space to rejoice in progress, experience rebirth through responsive learning, and return to their communities renewed in purpose. As Sr. Nkhaketseng Caroline Maoeng, HFB of Lesotho, reflected, education and religious life "are interconnected" and strengthen "the desire to study for mission, not only to accumulate knowledge." We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the ASEC Alumni Association (AAA)! Together, our alumni are building a vibrant community that will strengthen connections, foster collaboration, and shape the future of our alumni network across Africa! 🌍 During our Alumnae Leaders and Staff Workshop in Zambia this January, alumni elected the inaugural leadership team of the AAA and formed regional leadership teams representing East, West, and South-Central Africa, laying the foundation for a strong and connected alumni network across the continent. Congratulations to President Sr. Ann Kamene Musyoka, ASN (Kenya), Vice President Sr. Arether Mwila Ngoma, FMSA (Zambia), Treasurer Sr. Stella Nkechi Anyanwu, SSND (Nigeria), and all elected regional leaders! This historic step strengthens collaboration among ASEC alumni and creates new opportunities to support one another, share expertise, and continue building impact in their communities across Africa.

Across Africa, Catholic sisters are gathering for something more than a workshop. Through ASEC’s HESA Reflective Learning Workshops, participants are reflecting on their journeys, reconnecting with peers, and renewing their sense of purpose within their studies and ministries. Held throughout the year across partner countries, these workshops create space for sisters to celebrate progress, strengthen support networks, and respond to real challenges identified by participants themselves. Workshops have already taken place in Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon, and Kenya, with more scheduled this May in South Sudan, Malawi, Lesotho, Zambia, Ghana, and Kenya.
